All Quin Snyder seems to know about his immediate future is he won’t be coaching the Jazz next season. Beyond that, it appears to be up in the air.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do next year, as far as coaching,” he said, via Eric Walden of the Salt Lake Tribune. “I know I’m going to be at Halloween with my daughter. That’s the silver lining of me stepping down now.”
Snyder stepped down as Jazz coach after eight seasons. He said he had been considering his future with the franchise for the past several weeks, before reaching a decision over the weekend.
“There’s a real sense of sadness and sorrow and loss,” he admitted, via Walden. “That’s to be expected. … I gave everything I had.”
Snyder, 55, coached the Jazz to a 372-264 record in his eight years, including a 49-33 record this past season. They finished 52-20 in 2010-21 for the NBA’s best mark, but failed to advance beyond the second round in the Western Conference playoffs.
As for what’s next, again, Snyder didn’t want to get into specifics, perhaps because he himself does not know.
“I’ve been so consumed with this decision over a period of weeks,” he said, via Walden. “I haven’t really thought about that.”
One thing is for certain: He will be a hot candidate once he finally does determine its time to return to the sideline.
“I know he’ll go on to coach again and be highly sought-after,” Jazz head of basketball operations Danny Ainge said, adding that he was hopeful Snyder would stay on as coach.
Utah is the only NBA team in which Snyder has served as the head coach. Though he has been an assistant with the Hawks, Lakers, 76ers and Clippers, and has been a head coach at Missouri and in the G League.
