Raptors guard Bruce Brown underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery on Thursday in new York and will be reevaluated in three weeks, the team announced in a statement.
That means Brown will miss all of training camp and likely the preseason, with Toronto to open at home against the Cavaliers on Oct. 23. The Raptors open camp in Montreal on Oct. 1 and stay there for the preseason opener vs. the Wizards on Oct. 6.
Brown played for the Pacers and Raptors last season, averaging 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 0.9 steals, shooting 47.8% from the field and 32.3% on 3-pointers. A one-time NBA champion, he carries career averages of 8.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists with the Pistons, Nets, Nuggets, Pacers and Raptors.
He reportedly has been dealing with a knee issue since the end of last season.
The Raptors picked up Brown’s 2024-25 team option and reportedly have been trying to trade him. That said, it doesn’t appear that he’s going anywhere for the time being.
“Brown and the Raptors had hoped the issue would calm down during the off-season but the injury flared up again when he ramped up workouts to be ready for the start of training camp,” wrote Doug Smith of the Toronto Star.
“Instead of trying to work through it under the stress of camp practices, the decision to have the scope now should lessen his absence.”
