Raptors sign Cole Swider to 10-day contract

The Toronto Raptors have filled the open spot on their 15-man roster by signing forward Cole Swider to a 10-day contract, the team announced in a press release.Cole Swider, Pacers, NBA, Heat, Raptors

Swider, who was part of the Indiana Pacers’ training camp last fall, signed a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons to start the regular season but was waived in January.

He has spent the majority of this season in the G League, first with the Motor City Cruise and more recently with the South Bay Lakers, who acquired his rights in a trade last month.

Over 31 games with the two G League teams, Swider has posted averages of 21.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 34.6 minutes per game. He has impressed with a shooting line of .482/.442/.952.

An undrafted free agent out of Syracuse in 2022, Swider has seen brief NBA action in each of his first three professional seasons. He played in seven games with the Los Angeles Lakers as a rookie, 18 games with the Miami Heat last year, and two games with the Pistons this season.

Swider will take the roster spot previously held by center Colin Castleton, whose second 10-day contract with the Raptors expired overnight. Toronto would have needed to sign Castleton to a rest-of-season deal to retain him. In 10 games with the Raptors, Castleton averaged 6.9 points and 7.4 rebounds in 25.9 minutes per contest.

Swider’s 10-day contract is valued at $119,972, with an identical cap hit for the Raptors. The deal will run through Friday, April 4, covering the team’s next six games.
