The Raptors appear increasingly likely to make an in-season move. According to Josh Lewenberg of TSN, the odds of Toronto completing a trade before the Feb. 5 deadline are “pretty high.”

Beyond upgrading the roster, the Raptors are also mindful of the luxury tax. They are currently operating less than $1 million over the line, making cost control part of the equation.

Wing Logjam Could Shape Deals

If Toronto opts for a smaller-scale move, Lewenberg notes that swingmen such as Ochai Agbaji or Gradey Dick could emerge as trade candidates. The Raptors have a logjam on the wing, and a minor deal could help balance the roster while easing tax pressure.

Poeltl Not Going Anywhere

While frontcourt help remains a priority, Jakob Poeltl is not available, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. Poeltl signed an extension in the offseason and becomes trade-eligible Jan. 7.

Though his numbers are down, Lewenberg reports Poeltl has been dealing with a nagging back issue, and Toronto would prefer to add depth alongside him rather than move him.

How Big a Swing?

Fischer writes that Toronto’s level of aggression could depend on how the team performs in the coming weeks. The Raptors control all of their future first-round picks, affording them flexibility if they decide to pursue a more impactful move.

Big Names on the Board

Fischer reports the Raptors and Hawks have shown the most interest in Mavericks big man Anthony Davis, though Atlanta is viewed as a longer shot. Lewenberg, echoing earlier reporting from Michael Grange, suggests Toronto may have stronger interest in Dallas center Daniel Gafford and has already checked in. Magic center Goga Bitadze has also been mentioned.

If the Raptors aim even higher, Fischer adds that Domantas Sabonis and Giannis Antetokounmpo would draw interest should either become available.
