The Raptors may not be sitting still. Not with this roster. Not with this opportunity.
Toronto has been linked to trade interest in Kings All-Star Domantas Sabonis and Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford, per multiple reports. Sam Amick of The Athletic has connected the Raptors to Sabonis. Josh Lewenberg of TSN has reported interest in Gafford.
Toronto currently sits near the top of the East and appears open to reshaping the roster around Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram. Multiple reports suggest Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl, and RJ Barrett could be part of the outgoing mix if the right upgrade is available.
Sabonis would be the headline swing. He is putting up strong numbers for a Sacramento team going nowhere fast and is at a stage in his career where playoff relevance matters. He comes with a big salary, but also real production.
Gafford is a different tier. Cheaper. More specialized. A rim-running, shot-blocking center who has been viewed around the league as one of Dallas’ more movable pieces.
Toronto previously sniffed around Anthony Davis before his hand injury, but that pursuit has cooled. Now the focus appears to be on attainable upgrades that fit both timeline and cap reality.
The Raptors have defended well, struggled to score, and hovered in the middle of the pack overall. A deadline move feels possible. Maybe even likely.
February 5 is coming. Toronto is clearly shopping.
