The Raptors are finalizing a deal to hire Grizzlies assistant Darko Rajakovic as head coach, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Rajakovic, 44, has been an assistant with Taylor Jenkins and the Grizzlies since 2020. He spent a season as an assistant with the Suns (2019-20) and five with the Thunder (2014-19).
A native of Serbia, Rajakovic also coached the Tulsa 66ers of the G League (2012-14).
The Raptors have been seeking a coach for seven weeks after dismissing Nick Nurse at the end of the season. Nurse has since become coach of the 76ers.
”The Raptors wanted a coach whom they believed could coach a contending team should the franchise stay on its current path with veterans, or a rebuilding roster should they eventually transform the roster to younger players and draft assets, sources said,” Wojnarowski wrote.
The NBA now has no head-coaching openings.
