The Toronto Raptors intend to waive guard Spencer Dinwiddie after acquiring him in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, per multiple reports.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Dallas Mavericks are among the teams that will have an interest in signing Dinwiddie once he becomes available.
Interestingly, Dinwiddie will receive a $1.5 million bonus on his expiring contract if he appears in 50 games this season. He’s at 48 games now.
Apparently, Toronto doesn’t want to be locked into paying that bonus for a player who likely would not be on the team beyond the rest of this season.
Dinwiddie, 30, is averaging 12.6 points, 6.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds, shooting 39 percent from the field and 32 percent on 3-pointers. He has also spent time with the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and yes, the Mavericks, serving two stints with the Nets.
He was acquired by the Raptors in a trade that sent guard Dennis Schroder and forward Thad Young to Brooklyn.
