The Raptors have offically waived center Aron Baynes, the team announced in a release.
The move isn’t necessarily a huge surprise, as Baynes’ salary of about $7.35 million was to become fully guaranteed if he had remained on the roster.
Baynes, 34, is 6-foot-10 signed a two-year deal with Toronto in 2020 after a year with the Suns. He spent time with the Celtics, Pistons and Spurs before that.
But he proved not to be a great fit with the Raptors, putting up averages of 6.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in 53 games. That said, he is sure to draw interest on waivers, then after should he clear.
While the Raptors agreed to a sign-and-trade that will send Kyle Lowry to the Heat, they still figure to be a player in the Eastern Conference with the likes of Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr. and Fred VanVleet.
