Former Canton McKinley High School star Raymar Morgan, now 36, just keeps finding places to play professionally.
His latest stop? Germany, as Morgan has signed on with Science City Jena of the German Pro A League.
He most recently played for the Sudbury Five of the Canadian League, which followed a stint in Spain. He has also spent time in Turkey, France, Germany, Greece and Israel since becoming pro in 2022.
Morgan is a 6-foot-8 power forward who went undrafted out of Michigan State in 2010. He led Canton McKinley to the state championship in 2016 and was named 2006 Ohio Division I Player of the Year. He finished his career as McKinley’s all-time leading scorer (1,553 points).
The Bulldogs were 73-7 and never lost a home game with Morgan in the starting lineup. So yes, he’s one of the greatest high school basketball players Northeast Ohio has ever seen. Interestingly, he became the second McKinley great to play his college ball at Michigan State, joining former Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Eric Snow.
While Morgan has never played an NBA game, he has been on some NBA rosters during the Las Vegas Summer League. But his last shot there came in 2016. Since then, clearly, he has been enjoying his time playing internationally, as he’s continuing that basketball mission.
He’s also done well for himself in Europe. in 2017, Morgan won the BBL Best Offensive Player award while playing for German club Ratiopharm Ulm.
Morgan averaged 24.4 points and 9.0 rebounds as a senior at Canton McKinley under coach Dave Hoover.
