Free agent center Dwight Howard has not given up on the idea of playing professional basketball just yet.
He made a run at the NBA in the offseason, reportedly working out for a handful of teams, and is now said to be considering playing in Europe, per Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.
Howard, 37, would try to use an international stint as a path back to the NBA, Urbonas wrote.
Per Urbonas’ sources, Howard’s management team has been reaching out to European clubs, including those participating in EuroLeague and EuroCup.
Howard may also be considering signing on with a team in the Australian National Basketball, per Urbonas.
Howard last played in the NBA in the 2021-22 season, when he appeared in 60 games with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was selected by the Orlando Magic with the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and went on to make eight All-Star games (though the last was in 2014).
He has also spent time with the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers. He carries career averages of 15.7 points and 11.8 rebounds.
