Trae Young’s future with the Hawks is officially something to watch.

According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, Atlanta’s All-Star guard is open to the idea of a trade, a notable development for a franchise that has quietly been taking stock of its options for months.

Atlanta has played better at times without Young this season, and extension talks haven’t gained traction. League sources told Dallas Hoops Journal that the Hawks began gathering intelligence on Young’s trade market as far back as last offseason.

Young, 27, is earning $45.9 million this season and holds a $48.9 million player option for 2026-27, which he could decline to reach unrestricted free agency. He doesn’t have a no-trade clause, giving Atlanta flexibility if it decides to move in a different direction.

On the court, the production remains solid if uneven. Young is averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists while shooting 41.5 percent overall and 30.5 percent from three. The Hawks are just 2-8 in games he’s played, a number that has only added to the leaguewide curiosity surrounding his situation.

Atlanta has explored bigger swings as well, including internal discussions around Anthony Davis, though sources say the Mavericks have no interest in taking back Young in any such scenario. As Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported, there’s no real traction between the two teams.

Anyway, nothing involving Young appears imminent. But between stalled extension talks, mixed results on the floor, and Atlanta quietly doing its homework, his name isn’t likely to leave the rumor mill anytime soon.
