Report: Knicks Among Handful Of Teams Trying To Trade For Suns’ Kevin Durant

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the New York Knicks are among the handful of teams trying to trade for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant

The Suns will trade Durant soon.

The Suns missed the playoffs this year despite having Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. They were so putrid that they didn’t even make the play-in tournament.

Meanwhile, the Knicks made the conference finals this year for the first time since 2000. They lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games.

New York fired Tom Thibodeau as head coach last week. Thibodeau was hired by the Knicks in 2020. He went 226-174 in the regular season and 24-23 in the postseason and won the 2021 Coach of the Year Award.

One of the best players in NBA history, Durant turns 37 in the fall. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from 3 and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

A top 75 player of all time, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He’s a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time MVP and a four-time scoring champion.

Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, but he and his camp are working together with the Suns to find a logical landing spot. KD has one year left on his contract.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Knicks made an offer to the Suns for Durant at the NBA trade deadline in February. Durant could have signed with the Knicks in 2019, but he and Kyrie Irving went to the Nets instead.

Durant hasn’t gotten back to the NBA Finals since leaving the Warriors in the summer of 2019.
