The Mavericks may wait until the offseason before making a move involving Anthony Davis.
According to Christian Clark of The Athletic, Dallas has signaled a desire to remain competitive despite a 10-16 start, and multiple rival executives believe the team could hold off on trading Davis until this summer.
The thinking in some league circles is that Dallas could use the remainder of the season to rebuild Davis’ trade value after he missed extended time in each of the past two seasons with adductor and calf injuries.
Davis, a 10-time All-Star who turns 33 in March, is earning $54.1 million this season. He is owed $58.5 million next year and holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.
Since being acquired in last season’s blockbuster Luka Doncic trade, Davis has appeared in just 20 games for Dallas. In that span, he has averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.9 blocks.
For now, patience appears to be the prevailing approach.
