No doubt you’ve heard people say, “You don’t like the weather? Just wait a minute, it’ll change.”
The same applies to NBA trade rumors, especially the ones involving whether or not multiple teams are showing an interest in acquiring the services of 76ers veteran forward Tobias Harris.
The reliable Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Suns have ended their pursuit of Harris, and that the “Sixers remain adamant about keeping (the) star forward.”
Pompey further says while the Sixers have received inquiries from many teams in recent weeks, including the Pistons, Cavaliers, Suns, Mavs and Jazz, you can forget about the Suns for the time being.
That’s because the Suns wanted to move 7-foot, 250-pound center Deandre Ayton, and the Sixers want no part of that, Pompey reports. The Sixers Twitterverse has also chimed in, to douse the scenario with ice cold water.
In a nutshell, here’s how Pompey describes the conflict over whether or not the Sixers will want to ultimately move Harris: “Harris has been criticized by those who believe he failed to live up to the five-year, $180 million contract he signed in July 2019. Others believe the power forward never had extended opportunities to show why he received the money.”
One of those “others” presumably is Torrel Harris, who is Tobias Harris’ agent, and father.
“Ever since they traded him to the Sixers, they put him in the corner,” the elder Harris told the Inquirer.
So will Tobias Harris still find his way to another team? The Sixers say no, but as anyone who follows the NBA knows, today’s “no” can have a way of turning into tomorrow’s “we thank him for his service to the organization and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
So stay tuned. This one feels like it might not be over just yet.
