Things have not gone well for the Suns after the offseason splash of a trade that landed shooting guard Bradley Beal.
That’s likely because Beal, guard Devin Booker and star forward Kevin Durant hasn’t been able to stay on the floor together, with Beal being sidelined most because of a back issue.
Along with the Beal move, the Suns hired Frank Vogel to replace Monty Williams as coach. Despite all this, Phoenix has hovered around .500, leading to some frustration from Durant.
“They can feel the frustration with Durant,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on NBA Today. “Part of that certainly is the missed games from Brad Beal. This team was built around those three stars … the underwhelming supporting cast, that comes from those trades for Durant and Bradley Beal that really gutted the organization and left them having to sign a lot of minimum players.
“They lack the assets, the draft picks, the trade capital to go out and really improve this team. It’s something they’re going to have to manage in Phoenix. Kevin Durant has seen it before and it reminds you of how short a window … this team has to win big and they have to win big quickly based on how it was constructed.
“And having Kevin Durant still playing at an all-NBA level, and a healthy Kevin Durant, there’s a lot at stake for this organization. It’s gotta change soon.”
