Anthony Davis’ future in Dallas is already under discussion, even with the trade deadline still weeks away.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul has sought clarity from the Mavericks on whether the organization plans to explore a trade involving Davis or instead work toward a long-term extension.

As Scotto notes, the conversations reflect a broader question facing the Mavericks. Are they prepared to build around prized rookie Cooper Flagg and reset the roster, or do they still view Davis as a cornerstone capable of anchoring a high-level contender?

The situation is complicated by availability. Davis has appeared in just 20 games with Dallas since the trade and only 11 games this season due to a left calf injury. When on the floor, he has averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and nearly two blocks per game.

League chatter has linked Davis to teams such as Atlanta, Detroit, and Toronto, though Dallas has consistently signaled it is not interested in simply shedding salary.

Davis, who arrived in Dallas as the centerpiece of last season’s blockbuster Luka Doncic deal, will be eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension in August. He is earning $54.1 million this season, is owed $58.5 million next year, and holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
