Rival GM on Jae Crowder’s Suns Holdout: ‘You’re Not That Good, Bro’

We may finally have an answer as to why the Suns have been unable to trade small forward Jae Crowder.Jae Crowder

Namely, because opposing teams seemingly aren’t all that desperate for his skills. At least, not if you ask one rival general manager, as relayed by veteran NBA writer Steve Bulpett of Heavy Sports.

Crowder, 32, is in the final year of his contract and holding out. Why, we’re not sure. One reason cited is that he lost his starting job. Others have said it’s because he wants a contract extension before he plays. It’s likely a little of both.

“He said he’s not playing unless he gets a contract extension that he wants. I think a lot of teams are turned off by that in and of itself,” the GM told Bulpett. “Like, ‘What? You don’t want to play for one of the best teams in the NBA and PROVE that you’re worth it so you can get a contract next year? Like, you’re not that good, bro. What are you doing?’

“It’s a weird dynamic. It’s one thing if Kevin Durant’s holding out because he’s not getting paid enough, but Jae Crowder? Seriously?”

Crowder, 32, appeared in 67 games last season (all starts), averaging 9.4 points on 40 percent shooting, to go with 5.3 rebounds and some strong perimeter defense. But at this point, the Suns may be overvaluing him, as they continue to rebuff offers.

The Bucks, Wizards, Heat have been among those with a supposed interest. Of course, he could always just return to the Suns.

“I just don’t understand this, and I’m not alone,” the GM told Bulpett. “He was playing a great role, and he fit into their team — and they’re a good team. And he was surrounded by some great players that could have made him look better.”

  1. Jae Crowder has already proved what he does and doesn’t do. The rival GM expecting him to “prove” something new, is full of it talking about “next year”. These are grown men, proven players, worth money now. It might not be the money Crowder wants.. but lets not pretend we don’t know exactly what Jae Crowder does on a basketball court. “Prove” smh.. If you don’t know what Jae Crowder does.. come on dude. Either you want him or not.. no need manufacture fake reasons for anything.
