The Rockets are converting the contract of rookie guard Daishen Nix from an Exhibit 10 deal to a two-way deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Nix, 19, is 6-foot-5 and spent last season with the G League Ignite, alongside Rockets rookie and shooting guard Jalen Green, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Nix had originally committed to UCLA out of high school.
He did not get drafted after averaging 8.8 points and 5.3 assists, primarily coming off the bench in 15 G League games last season.
“Fluid ball handler who operates at different speeds well. Has outstanding body control and pace,” ESPN wrote of Nix. “Can power through defenders with his strong frame, using long strides, polished footwork and impressive creativity as a finisher.”
He played with the 76ers in summer league before signing a non-guaranteed deal with the Rockets.
Nix can appear in up to 50 NBA regular-season games on a two-way contract. The rest of his time is likely to be spent back in the G League, this time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ affiliate.
