The Rockets intend to pick up the 2023-24 contract options on second-year guards Jalen Green and Josh Christopher, as well as second-year center Alperen Sengun and power forward Usman Garuba, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
All four players were drafted in 2021, with Green being the second overall pick.
The Rockets’ decisions on Green and Senguin were considered mere formalities, with both players being considered key parts of Houston’s rebuild. Green’s option is for $9.9 million, while Sengun’s is for $3.5 million.
Things were a little more dicey for Garuba and Christopher, who have not been a major part of the rotation thus far. But the Rockets were encouraged by Garuba’s play with Spain during the Eurobasket tournament over the summer, Feigen noted.
Garuba will now be guaranteed for $2.6 million, with Christopher earning $2.5 million, via the extensions.
