Tari Eason, who many have pegged as a steal in the draft, continues to draw interest from other teams. But sources say the Rockets are not entertaining any offers for him. Same goes for Amen Thompson, last year’s lottery pick, who remains a central part of the team’s plans.
GM Rafael Stone has been relentless in his pursuit of tough, defensive-minded players. That’s why Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet were brought in — both are known for their ability to lock down on defense, something coach Ime Udoka seemingly values above all else.
Udoka’s influence can be seen in the Rockets’ newfound defensive identity, and it’s clear that he’s demanding accountability from every player on the floor.
Defensive schemes are built in practice and through film study, but where Udoka really shines is in-game. His huddles are intense and focused, making sure his players stay locked in no matter what.
The result? The Rockets are 8-4 and currently sitting third in the NBA in defensive efficiency. With this foundation, Houston has a mix of young talent and veteran leadership that’s beginning to click.
Things could change — this is the NBA, after all — but for now, the Rockets have reason to be optimistic. They’ve built a team that’s tough, hungry, and, most importantly, hard to score on.
