As the Rockets continue to impress with a 9-4 start to the season, the consistent buzz out of the organization suggests they are in no rush to make any major moves involving their prized young core.
Despite speculation from rival teams, the Rockets are reportedly inclined to hold off until the offseason before seriously considering trade offers for their burgeoning roster of recent draftees.
The reasoning behind this? Houston is playing the long game.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, citing league sources, the Rockets are biding their time, watching to see how the situation unfolds with their dream trade target: Kevin Durant.
While Phoenix has been adamant in its stance that Durant is off-limits and integral to their championship aspirations, Houston seems to be taking a “wait-and-see” approach. The Rockets’ front office knows that in today’s NBA, even the most committed superstars can become available under the right circumstances, and Durant’s status will continue to be monitored closely.
With a young core featuring Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Jabari Smith Jr., plus a wealth of draft picks, Houston is in a position of power. They don’t need to rush into a trade that could disrupt the development of their future stars.
Instead, they’re positioning themselves to make a splash when the right opportunity presents itself — whether that’s in the form of Durant or another game-changing superstar. For now, patience is key as they look to balance their rebuilding process with the allure of a title-contending roster.
