There had originally been some doubt, but now it appears the Rockets will hang on to center Boban Marjanovic, acquired as part of the Christian Wood trade with the Mavericks back in June.
This comes from Marc Stein of The Stein Line, who cited sources in indicating the Rockets may like Marjanovic for the depth he adds to the frontcourt.
“League sources say that the Rockets, as it stands, are still operating under the belief that Boban Marjanovic has a place on their Opening Night roster despite an apparent frontcourt logjam,” Stein wrote. “Alperen Sengun is projected to start at center for Houston, leaving Bruno Fernando and the recently signed Willie Cauley-Stein to scrap for reserve minutes alongside Marjanovic.”
Along with Marjanovic, the Rockets received Sterling Brown, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss and the No. 26 overall draft pick (Wendell Moore Jr.), which the Rockets eventually traded to the Timberwolves.
Marjanovic, 34, is 7-3 and appeared in 23 games last season with Dallas, compiling averages of 4.3 points and 1.7 rebounds. He also spent time with the 76ers, Pistons, Clippers and Spurs.
