The Rockets have worked out guard/forward Gerald Green and guard Monta Ellis, according to Kelly Iko and Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic.
Neither veteran has played in the NBA in some time.
Green, 35, is 6-foot-6 and was in training camp with the Rockets prior to last season, but was waived. He missed all of 2019-20 with a broken foot, also as a member of the Rockets.
He appeared in 73 games with Houston in 2018-19, averaging 9.2 points and 2.5 rebounds.
Ellis, 35, is 6-3 and last appeared in the NBA in 2016-17, when he averaged 8.5 points and 3.2 assists with the Pacers. He has also spent time with the Mavericks, Bucks and Warriors. He has also worked out for Dallas, per reports.
Interestingly, the Pacers are still on the hook for some of his salary, as noted by Dana Gauruder of Hoops Rumors.
“The Pacers used the stretch provision to distribute Ellis’ remaining salary after his last NBA season and he’s still on their books for $2.245MM,” Gauruder wrote. “Ellis turns 36 next month.”
Obviously, the Rockets are in rebuild mode, and already have 14 players on standard contracts. So it would seem Ellis and Green are likely long shots to make the team — or even get a camp invite — at this stage of their careers.
