The 76ers have agreed to a three-year contract with rookie center Charles Bassey, agents Adie von Gontard and Daveed Cohen told Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The deal is fully guaranteed in the first year and includes a partial guarantee in the second year, Charania reported.
Bassey, 20, is 6-foot-11 and was selected in the second round (No. 53 overall) out of Western Kentucky. A native of Lagos, Nigeria, he moved to the United States at the age of 14.
He is coming off a junior year in which he averaged 17.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and a whopping 3.1 blocks on his way to being named Conference USA Player of the Year.
With the 76ers, Bassey will likely serve as the third-string center behind All-Star Joel Embiid and newcomer Andre Drummond.
“The delay in signing reportedly stemmed from Bassey’s desire to get some guaranteed money, which is unusual for a player drafted that low,” noted Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.
