The 76ers intend to hire Mike Longabardi as head coach of the Delaware Blue Coats of the G League, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Longabardi, 50, has served as an assistant in the NBA since 2003, most recently with the Hawks. He has also spent time with the Kings, Wizards, Cavaliers, Suns, Celtics and Rockets, making a name for himself as a “defensive coordinator” on the sideline.
Before joining the NBA, he served as an assistant at the college level, first with Pfeiffer, then Adelphi, then Lafayette and Towson. His lone head-coaching experience came when he was the interim coach at Adelphi during the 1999 season.
The Blue Coats are the reigning G League champions, finishing 20-12 last season and defeating the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the Finals.
