All-Star center Joel Embiid appears to be progressing from an orbital fracture and mild concussion, perhaps making a return for Game 3 or 4 of the 76ers’ series vs. the Heat more likely, as relayed by Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.
Miami leads the series, 1-0, as Embiid missed Game 1. As we relayed earlier in the week, he could be sporting a protective mask upon his return.
Embiid suffered the injury in the first round vs. the Raptors and his since entered the league’s concussion protocol. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, there is “hope and optimism” from the Sixers on Embiid returning for Game 3.
He is expected to see a doctor this week to re-evaluate the injury and hopefully for the Sixers, receive the green light to return.
Along with the blow to his face, Embiid has a torn ligament in his thumb, but is waiting until the offseason to undergo surgery.
