All-Star center Joel Embiid underwent an MRI on his sore right knee over the weekend, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, and will miss Monday’s home game vs. the Trail Blazers.
Embiid will officially be listed out for the purposes of “rest,” as the MRI revealed no concerns.
The Sixers (4-2) are coming off a rout of the Hawks, a game in which Embiid scored 19 points. Philadelphia held a 60-36 scoring advantage in the paint in the win.
Embiid, 27, is averaging 21.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in the early season. He is expected to return for the Sixers’ next game Wednesday, when they host the Bulls.
Meanwhile, star guard/forward Ben Simmons remains out for personal reasons. He was spotted on a exercise bike during Saturday’s shootaround.
“I stay out of it,” Sixers coach Doc Rivers told reporters. “I really do. My job is to coach the guys who are here and to believe that the guys that are here will play for us some day. That’s all I have to believe as a coach. I try not to get involved as a coach in the clutter.”
