The 76ers have dismissed coach Doc Rivers, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Rivers and the Sixers were just eliminated by the Celtics in seven games in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, bringing an end to the season for league MVP Joel Embiid and star guard James Harden, along with the rest of the cast.
Philadelphia lost in the second round of the playoffs in each of Rivers’ three seasons as head coach.
It’s too early to say who may be the Sixers’ next coach, but given the strong bond between head of basketball operations Daryl Morey and unemployed coach Mike D’Antoni, you would have to think D’Antoni will be under consideration.
The 76ers finished 154-82 under Rivers, who has also served as head coach of the Clippers, Celtics and Magic. Overall he has compiled a 1,097-763 record in 24 seasons, winning a championship in 2008 with Boston.
