The Philadelphia 76ers are signing forward D.J. Wilson to a 10-day contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Wilson, 28, is 6-foot-10 and was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the No. 17 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He has five years of NBA experience, though he hasn’t played in the league since the 2020-21 season.
This season, Wilson has been with the Osceola Magic of the G League and playing particularly well. In 27 games, he carries averages of 19.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.6 blocks, shooting 58 percent from the field and 42 percent on 3-pointers.
Wilson appeared in 119 games with the Bucks and has NBA career averages of 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds. He also played briefly for the Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors.
The 76ers (38-30) will be adding depth to the frontcourt in the absence of injured All-Star center Joel Embiid, who may or may not return before the playoffs. They currently sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
“I think there’s always stages of how these things progress,” coach Nick Nurse said of Embiid’s return, via ESPN. “Everyone wants to know, ‘Well how long is it going to be?’ And they give a wide range because of that because everyone heals differently. We’re just trying to take it as it comes, get him healthy and get him back when he’s ready to go.”
