We now have a better idea of what will happen with James Harden, and we’re not even into training camp.
For starters, Harden skipped the 76ers’ media day on Monday after demanding a trade earlier in the offseason. Some thought he might back off that stance. Again, he has not. Clearly.
When it comes to a potential next destination, Harden is said to prefer the Clippers. The Sixers have indeed talked to the Clippers on a Harden trade, even recently. But there has been no traction in that department.
As of Monday, the sides were not close on anything.
“He continues to seek a trade and we’re working with his representation to resolve that in the best way for the 76ers and hopefully all parties,” president of basketball operations Daryl Morey told reporters.
“In terms of a trade, I will continue to work on those fronts and, if he’s here, then coach (Nick Nurse) will work with him on the court. I think it’s pretty straight forward.”
It’s not been determined if the Sixers are talking to teams other than the Clippers — though based on the way things are going, they may have to if Harden remains out of sight.
