The 76ers will be without All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey for the foreseeable future.

Philadelphia announced Tuesday that Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury in his right pinkie and will be reevaluated in approximately three weeks.

The injury occurred late in Saturday’s loss to the Hawks when Maxey collided with teammate Adem Bona with 16 seconds remaining. Maxey immediately grabbed his right hand and headed to the locker room.

Initial X-rays and an MRI revealed no fractures, but coach Nick Nurse said further evaluation from hand specialists was needed. Additional imaging later confirmed the tendon issue.

The timing is difficult for a Sixers team already battling injuries and suspension issues. Joel Embiid remains out with a strained right oblique, while Paul George continues serving a 25-game suspension.

Maxey has been one of the league’s most productive guards this season. He is averaging career highs of 29 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.7 assists while also recording 2.0 steals per game.

Philadelphia entered Tuesday in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings, having dropped four of its previous five games.
