The Spurs are acquiring center/forward Noah Vonleh from the Celtics in exchange for cash considerations, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Along with that, the Spurs intend to waive center Gorgui Dieng to make room for Vonleh, Charania added. The deal will also involve the Celtics sending some cash to the Spurs, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Vonleh, 27, is 6-foot-10 and has appeared in 23 games with the Celtics this season after signing a one-year deal in September. The Spurs will become his ninth team since he entered the NBA in 2014 as the No. 9 overall draft pick by Charlotte.
He spent three of those seasons with the Trail Blazers. He has also spent time with the Knicks, Timberwolves, Bulls, Nuggets and Nets. Vonleh carries career averages of 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds.
Per Brian Robb of MassLive, the trade is taking place ahead of the weekend in which Vonleh’s contract was set to become guaranteed. The move opens a roster spot for Boston.
Dieng, 32, has appeared in just 13 games this season, averaging right around 11 minutes a night. He is averaging 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds.
Along with the Spurs, Dieng has spent time with the Hawks, Grizzlies and Timberwolves.
