The San Antonio Spurs received encouraging news on Victor Wembanyama.
An MRI showed no ligament damage in the left knee Wembanyama hyperextended Wednesday night against the New York Knicks, league sources told ESPN.
Wembanyama did not travel with the team to Indianapolis for Friday’s game against the Pacers, as Spurs officials preferred he remain in San Antonio to utilize treatment resources at the team facility. He was officially ruled out for that game and is considered day-to-day.
Sources told ESPN that Wembanyama will be listed as questionable for Saturday’s home matchup with Portland.
The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter when Wembanyama landed awkwardly while battling for a rebound. He grabbed at his knee but walked off under his own power, later returning to the bench in warmups.
“It was just a hyperextension,” Wembanyama said after the game. “It should be minimal. I was confident. I was this close to coming back in, but they had to hold me back.”
Wembanyama finished with 31 points and 13 rebounds in 24 minutes. The third-year center previously missed 12 games earlier this season with a left calf strain and is currently leading San Antonio in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots.
