The San Antonio Spurs intend to hire Australian men’s national team acting coach Jacob Chance as head coach of the G League’s Austin Spurs, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Chance will replace reigning G League Coach of the Year Scott King, who was promoted to an assistant role under Mitch Johnson.
Along with serving as an assistant and acting head coach with the Australian national team, Chance was an assistant with the Melbourne United of the National Basketball League.
Austin finished 22-12 last season before losing in the G League West finals to the eventual champion Stockton Kings.
Johnson is entering his first full season as coach of the Spurs, replacing Gregg Popovich, who held the position for 29 seasons.
