Spurs Notes: Chris Paul Eyes More Hoops, Wemby Resting Up, and Trade Watch Looms

Here’s the latest on Chris Paul, the Spurs, and some potential moves in San Antonio:Chris Paul, Spurs, NBA

  • Chris Paul’s Future
CP3’s not ready to call it quits just yet. Speaking to Spurs legend Tony Parker in an interview, Paul suggested he’s still got “maybe a year or two” left in his legs.

    • “I’m still trying to feel it out,” Paul said. “The hardest part is when I get home and I’ve gotta watch my kids’ games on my iPad. That’s the tug of war right now.”
    • Paul’s family remains in Los Angeles, and that distance weighs on him.
    • So why San Antonio, a rebuilding team? Simple: playing time.
      • “Last year was probably one of the toughest years for me,” Paul admitted. “I wanna play. If I’m gonna sacrifice my family and be away from them, then I at least need to be playing.”
  • Coaching in Paul’s Future?
Paul has always shot down the idea of becoming an NBA coach, but he may be warming up to it.

    • “I always said I wasn’t going to coach,” Paul said. “But I don’t know, I’m open to a whole bunch of things now.”
    • NBA GMs agree—Paul was voted most likely among active players to make the best head coach in a recent poll.
  • Victor Wembanyama Update
The Spurs’ prized Rookie of the Year is taking full advantage of this week’s rare in-season break.

    • Wembanyama, who missed two games with a sore lower back, called the rest “really beneficial.”
    • He added, “It’s not like a big deal, but sometimes it stops me from doing certain things.”
  • Trade Watch
Keep an eye on December 15, when three Spurs — Paul, Charles Bassey, and Sandro Mamukelashvili — become eligible to be traded. No moves seem imminent, but with Gregg Popovich, you never know.

Paul, Wemby, and trade rumors? It’s all part of the Spurs story this season. Stay tuned.
