The Spurs have officially signed French center and No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, the team announced in a press release.
Wembanyama is expected to spearhead a change the course for the franchise and will be slotted into a contract that will pay him about $12.2 million in his first season.
San Antonio will hold team options in years three and four of his deal, just as all teams do with first-round picks.
Wembanyama, 19, is 7-foot-3 and was MVP and Defensive Player of the Year of the LNB Pro A pro league in France — averaging 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and a whopping 3.0 blocks in 34 games last season.
He is expected to play for the Spurs’ NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas later this month.
