The Spurs intend to waive small forward Chandler Hutchison, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Hutchison, 25, is 6-foot-6 and was part of the five-team trade that landed Russell Westbrook with the Lakers, and Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Spencer Dinwiddie with the Wizards.
As Katz noted, Hutchison’s $4.4 million salary for the 2021-22 season is in fact guaranteed.
He averaged 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 18 games with the Wizards, who acquired him from the Bulls in March. After being selected with the No. 22 overall pick in 2018, Hutchison never found his groove in Chicago.
Prior to the trade to the Wizards, Hutchison sat out for nearly two months because of what the Bulls referred to as personal reasons.
“The Spurs had 17 guaranteed contracts, so at least one more will need to be waived or traded to get down to the regular season roster limit,” wrote Arthur Hill of Hoops Rumors. “They have 16 players signed for camp, with Joe Wieskamp and Keita Bates-Diop set to fill the two-way slots.”
