The Victor Wembanyama era has begun. At least, it has for the preseason.
We can hype it back up all over again once the regular season gets here.
But for now, it looks like the Spurs could indeed have a real gem in their No. 1 overall pick and main man in the middle.
Wembanyama showed flashes of brilliance in the Spurs’ 122-121 road loss to the Thunder, scoring 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting. He also made a nifty steal out on the perimeter, followed by a behind-the-back dribble and pinpoint pass on the run. That was all on the same play.
This is insane from Victor Wembanyama and is an exact example of his length changing basketball geometry.
Jalen Williams, who is 6-6 with a 7-2 wingspan and an ELITE finisher at the rim, beats Victor clean here. Vic is turned the opposite way.

For the game, he also added five rebounds, with two total steals and a blocked shot in 19 minutes.
The game also marked the preseason debut of Thunder center/forward Chet Holmgren, who impressed with 21 points and nine boards in 16 minutes.
We will be sure to have plenty more on both players as the season progresses. If things play out as projected, you’re talking about two young players who will be in the Rookie of the Year race.
These two are going to be special 🔥
