The Spurs have waived shooting guard Joe Wieskamp ahead of the deadline to submit final rosters to the NBA, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
San Antonio confirmed the news in announcing its opening night roster.
Wieskamp, 23, is 6-foot-6 and appeared in 29 games last season, averaging 2.1 points, after the Spurs selected him with the No. 41 overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft.
He actually spent most of last season on a two-way deal, but signed a standard deal in March. He then missed summer league with an ankle sprain, and his future in San Antonio was starting to seem in doubt.
He then signed a deal with the Spurs in late August, a deal that Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported was for two-years and $4.4 million.
The Spurs needed to release a player to reach the NBA roster limit of 15, Charania noted.
