The Warriors and star guard Steph Curry have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $215 million, agent Jeff Austin told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Curry, 33, returned from a hand injury in 2019-20 to lead the NBA in scoring at 32.0 points per game, remaining the cornerstone of a franchise that hopes to return to prominence.
Golden State sure has surrounded Curry with some notable names, starting with shooting guard Klay Thompson, expected to be back after missing two seasons with leg injuries.
They have also signed veteran forwards Otto Porter Jr. and Nemanja Bjelica, and picked up forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Moses Moody via the NBA Draft. More moves could still be on the way.
“Curry will earn $45,780,966 in 2021/22 before his extension takes effect the following year,” noted Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “He’s already making more than the default maximum for a player with his years of experience, but a player’s individual maximum is always at least 5% of his previous salary. As such, he’ll get a 5% raise to $48.07MM for ’22/23, with 8% raises in the following seasons.”
