Stephen Curry has been out more than six weeks. But the Warriors star says he has no plans to give up on this season.
Curry has been sidelined since leaving a Jan. 30 game against the Pistons with what the team has described as runner’s knee. But he made it clear that shutting things down early isn’t in his mindset.
“That’s not who we are,” Curry said, via The Athletic’s Nick Friedell. “If we have stuff to play for, we play. So, I’m working to get back.”
The 38-year-old has recently resumed individual workouts, though the Warriors announced his absence will extend at least another 10 days. No firm timetable has been set for his return.
Curry said he understands why some fans want him to take the cautious route and focus on next season. But that’s not how he views the situation.
“I know we’re depleted, but the idea of my injury is just getting information by the day of, ‘Can I play safely?’” Curry said. “And then we still have stuff to play for. We’d love to see guys in a playoff series and take a swing.”
Coach Steve Kerr said Curry continues to make progress.
“Of course we miss him,” Kerr said. “I’m the luckiest coach in the league to coach him.”
