Suns small forward Cam Johnson will undergo surgery for a right knee torn meniscus and is out indefinitely, as relayed by Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic.
Johnson suffered the injury Friday vs. the Blazers on a non-contract play. He exited the game and was ruled out for Saturday’s game, also against the Blazers.
“It’s really tough, obviously the most for him,” shooting guard Devin Booker said, via Rankin. “We’re here with him with whatever he needs. He’s going to be around the team. We say family every time we break it and that’s the situation we’re in.”
Johnson, 26, won the Suns’ starting small forward job before the season, reportedly prompting a trade request from Jae Crowder. Through the first eight games, Johnson has been very good, averaging 13.0 points on 45 percent shooting, including 43 percent on 3-pointers.
“Yeah man, it’s unfortunate,” point guard Chris Paul said, via Rankin. “This is my third year here and just getting to know Cam and knowing how great of a guy he is, how hard he works. Getting into the starting lineup. It’s a big year for him. It’s not it. Just a hurdle that he’s going to have to overcome and we’re going to be right there with him.”
