Suns point guard Chris Paul has flown to Los Angeles to have his injured right thumb examined, according to John Gambadoro of ArizonaSports.com.
Paul is scheduled to undergo an MRI after suffering the injury in the Suns’ comeback win over the Rockets on Wednesday. He was ejected from the game in the third quarter after complaining to the officials following the injury.
Paul could also be facing a suspension after the All-Star Break, as he bumped one of the officials during his protest, as relayed by Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic.
“Shortly after JT Orr whistled him for a technical foul, Paul had a pass deflected by Dennis Schröder and grabbed at his hand in pain after the play,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “He then bumped into Orr from behind, which drew a second technical and an automatic ejection and may result in further penalties from the league.”
Paul was named a reserve for the All-Star Game in Cleveland on Sunday, but given the injury, may not be able to participate. If not, commissioner Adam Silver will need to name a replacement.
“After the game, Suns coach said Monty Williams said he didn’t have an update on the injury, but three-time All-Star Devin Booker said Paul ‘was fine,'” Rankin reported.
