The Suns and former Lakers coach Frank Vogel are finalizing a deal that will make him the new head coach in Phoenix, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The deal will be for five years and $31 million, Charania reported.
Vogel, 49, was not a coach anywhere this past season after being fired by the Lakers at the end of the 2021-22. He also was considered a candidate for the Bucks and 76ers vacancies, which have since been filled.
Vogel spent three years with the Lakers, coaching them during the 2020 championship season in the Disney Bubble.
He has also served as head coach of the Magic and Pacers, compiling a regular-season record of 431-389 in 11 seasons overall.
The Suns have been looking for a replacement for Monty Williams, dismissed at the end of the season. Williams is set to become the new coach of the Pistons.
Vogel was said to be among three finalists for the Phoenix vacancy, along with ex-76ers coach Doc Rivers and Suns assistant Kevin Young. Given that Vogel will bring in his own staff, it remains to be seen if Young will remain with the Suns.
