The Suns are exploring what type of return they might receive in a trade centered on rookie forward/center Jalen Smith, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
Smith is 6-foot-10 and was selected by the Suns out of Maryland with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He ended up playing just a minor role during a storybook season in which Phoenix made a run to the Finals.
Overall, he appeared in just 27 regular-season games and six in the playoffs, averaging right around 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds.
Along with gauging interest in Smith, the Suns are “entertaining various options,” given that they have an open roster spot and still have “part of the mid-level exception to play with,” Fischer reported.
As it stands, Smith is part of a Suns big man rotation that includes the likes of Deandre Ayton, Dario Saric (when healthy), Frank Kaminsky and newcomer JaVale McGee.
