Suns’ Kevin Durant Expected To Miss At Least Two Weeks With Calf Injury

Kevin Durant’s injury couldn’t come at a more challenging time for the Suns. The 36-year-old superstar, who’s been playing at an MVP level through nine games, is set to miss at least two weeks with a left calf strain, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.NBA, Phoenix Suns, Kevin Durant

Durant’s numbers — 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists on a blistering 55.3% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc — are the kind that keeps Phoenix tied for first in the West. But now, the Suns are left to navigate a tough stretch without their go-to weapon.

Durant’s absence means the spotlight shifts to Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Booker’s off to a start that has Suns fans holding their breath, averaging 23.1 PPG on 42.9% shooting — figures not seen this low in eight years.

Beal, meanwhile, is adjusting to his new digs in the desert, putting up a modest 15.4 PPG, his lowest output in a decade. For Phoenix to stay afloat, these two need to tap into their scoring prowess and lead the way, particularly during a pivotal seven-game run that features a four-game road trip.

Durant’s setback is a reminder of the precarious balance between durability and dominance. Last season, he managed to play 75 games — the most since 2018-19 — and looked to have put the injury bug behind him.

But history is history, and the Suns now have to contend with the present: a competitive West, their star on the mend, and the need for urgency.

The November 26 matchup against the Lakers looms as the earliest point for Durant’s return, and the hope is Phoenix can keep their edge until then. Because in this league, staying on top is as much about depth and resilience as it is about star power.
