The reported trade that would send Wizards forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics and guard Malcolm Brogdon to the Clippers is off, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
It is unclear why the trade fell apart, but as of now, it’s not happening. As Wojnarowski wrote, the Wizards and Celtics could still iron out a Porzingis deal, though the Clippers are no longer involved.
Per multiple reports, the Wizards were in the process of sending Porzingis to the Celtics, with Celtics sending Brogdon to the Clippers. In exchange, the Wizards were set to receive forward Marcus Morris, guard/forward Amir Coffey and the No. 30 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft from the Clippers.
But with the draft less than 24 hours away and free agency around the corner, it appears there will be no deal. At least, not as it was originally framed.
Now, again, everything centers on the Wizards as new team president Michael Winger aims to retool the roster. He has already agreed to a trade that will send star guard Bradley Beal to the Suns.
Interestingly, Porzingis just came over after a stint as GM of the Clippers.
Along with the trading Beal, the Wizards stand a chance to lose forward Kyle Kuzma, who opted out of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent.
Porzingis has a $36 million option of his own, which he has yet to exercise.
Hoops Wire will have further updates as more news becomes available.
