Nuggets forward JaMychal Green is expected to opt into his contract to finalize the trade with the Thunder, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Green has a player option on his contract for $8.2 million, the second of a two-year deal he signed with the Nuggets ahead of the 2020-21 season. Per Wojnarowski, the Nuggets are trading Green to the Thunder for the No. 30 overall pick in the NBA Draft, as well as two TBD second-rounders.
Green, 31, will give the Thunder a veteran presence and a physical player in the frontcourt, something they could probably use on an otherwise young team. They will also have a trade asset on an expiring contract, should head of basketball operations Sam Presti decide to go that route.
So basically, Green is a player who can help the Thunder on the court while offering options off of it.
In 67 appearances last season, he averaged 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds. He has also spent time with the Clippers, Grizzlies and Spurs since entering the NBA in 2014.
“Green is expected to opt into his $8.2 million salary for the 2022-2023 season this month, which will ultimately finalize the deal,” Wojnarowski wrote. He added that the Thunder have $31.6 million in cap space to absorb Green’s contract.
