Thunder Expected To Sign Alex Caruso To Contract Extension

Alex Caruso’s future with the  Thunder could take a significant step forward as he becomes eligible for a contract extension on December 21 — six months after the Thunder acquired him from the Bulls.Alex Caruso, Thunder, NBA

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, this extension is the only major move expected from OKC in the near term.

“I don’t expect there to be much more in OKC for the time being right now aside from this impending Alex Caruso extension that the league is definitely still expecting and bracing for coming out of the Thunder,” Fischer said.

Caruso’s potential extension could be worth up to $80 million over four years. If no agreement is reached, he will become a free agent in 2025, leaving the door open for other teams to vie for his services. Represented by agent Greg Lawrence, Caruso’s camp will likely seek a deal that reflects his value as an elite role player with championship credentials.

OKC’s decision to trade Josh Giddey for Caruso last June raised some eyebrows, but it was a calculated move aimed at injecting veteran savvy and defensive prowess into a young, promising squad. Caruso has already made his mark with his trademark hustle, high basketball IQ, and leadership—intangibles that teams around the league covet.

Locking down Caruso on a long-term extension would be a clear signal that the Thunder are committed to balancing their youthful energy with experienced grit. As December approaches, all eyes will be on Oklahoma City to see if they make the move to solidify Caruso’s place in their plans, a move that could pay dividends for seasons to come.
