Timberwolves Signing Two Veteran Players

The Timberwolves are signing guard Skylar Mays and forward Eugene Omoruyi to training camp contracts, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

While details haven’t been reported, both players are likely receiving Exhibit 10 “make-good” deals.

Mays, 27, is 6-foot-4 and finished last season with the Trail Blazers after playing with the Lakers. He appeared in 38 games overall and averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 assists. Along with that, Mays played in the G League for the Mexico City Capitanes and Delaware Blue Coats, averaging 14.1 points, 5.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds.

Originally drafted by the Hawks with the No. 50 overall pick in 2020, Mays has appeared in 105 games, mostly with the Hawks, over three seasons. He has also been in training camp with the 76ers.

Omoruyi, 27, is 6-7 and finished last season with the Wizards, appearing in a career-high 43 games and averaging 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds. He has also served stints with the Mavericks, Thunder and Pistons since entering the NBA in 2021.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.

Granted, neither Mays nor Omoruyi stands a great chance at receiving a standard deal from the Timberwolves, but each could become a part of their G League franchise.

Minnesota will have 20 players in camp once the signings are official, just one away from the NBA limit.
